چکیده

The effect of moisture content and temperature on the melt ̄ow behavior and the resulting morphology of thermoplastic starch (TPS)/ poly(hydroxy ester ether) blends is studied. The viscosity ratio (l) was found to vary over two orders of magnitude (0.1±10) with changes in the TPS moisture content (15±30%) and temperature (120±1608C). This had a substantial effect on the level of mixing, nature of dispersion and the onset and nature of co-continuity. Deformation (in the ̄ow direction) of the dispersed starch phase was possible under high moisture conditions (higher l), leading to ®brillar and laminar types of morphologies at 50±80% starch level, whereas processing at a low moisture level (lower l) produced a more dispersed morphology. When the viscosities of the two phases were signi®cantly different, the low-viscosity polymer migrated to the surface. Surprisingly l increased with temperature at 20% moisture TPS but decreased with temperature at 30% moisture TPS. Hence, moisture content and temperature greatly affected the surface enrichment of the lower viscosity polymer. Water partitioning took place between TPS and PHEE during extrusion, dependent on the pre-extrusion moisture content of TPS but independent of the relative concentrations of the two polymers. q 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. In this research, hybrid materials based on poly(methyl methacrylate) and silica were synthesized via sol±gel process. Their glass transition behavior was investigated by differential scanning calorimeter. In DSC measurement, 1808C heat-treated hybrid materials exhibited higher miscibility as compared to untreated materials. Relationship between miscibility variation of hybrid materials and hea...

Short-chain branching in polyethylene, which involves a six-centre transition state, is studied by ab initio quantum mechanics up to the QCISD(T) level. The calculation gives a (low-pressure) activation energy of 73 kJ mol and a frequency factor of 4:8 × 10 s: The frequency factor for this six-centre transition state is expected to be of acceptable accuracy and also applicable to homologous sys...

Six generations of lactodendrimers based on poly(amidoamine) were studied in dilute solutions of 0.2 M NaCl by methods of molecular hydrodynamics (velocity sedimentation and viscometry) and optics (static and dynamic light scattering). Molecular weights, sedimentation and diffusion coef®cients, and intrinsic viscosity values were measured. These data were analysed and compared with previous res...

A model was developed to describe the overall dissolution kinetics of semicrystalline PVA gels prepared by freezing and thawing techniques. The dissolution process was described as a three-step mechanism: detachment-, diffusion-, and disentanglement-controlled dissolution. The unfolding of crystalline regions due to detachment and diffusion was calculated. The lamellar thickness of a PVA crysta...
